I was only meaning to help my mates as much as possible to win the scratch. I have not spent much time on the track this summer, so I had no expectations of winning a medal. I have come 4th in this event many times. The race started with about 15 riders, the pace was reasonable but when I had a chance I attacked hard from the front, but as soon as I went up the track everyone else followed. I sat at the back recovering, then I heard an awful crunch, I was sure that someone was coming down, but then I saw my mate TRUCK pedalling a wheel with about 5 spokes missing. There was now only 5 laps to go, and again all the riders swung up the track, I saw an excellent chance to attack, I never thought I would make it to the finish line, it was only to make the others chase. Two laps to go and my legs where dying, but I was determined to ride on. I could see another rider coming for me, I put in a last minute surge and just made it to the line.
Gold Medal, My first individual GOLD medal on the track. I was very happy, considering I had no expectations of victory. Now I have the possibility of riding in QLD Jersey at the Masters Track Nationals.
